Supporting Networks and Partnerships:
There are a huge range of opportunities
for individuals involved in local neighbourhoods to participate in local
partnerships and networks, but individuals regularly find it very challenging
to participate effectively. Group dynamics, feelings of futility, overload
of unfamiliar information and more can all lead to a drop in self-confidence
among individual members and a corresponding drop in capacity within the
wider networks and partnerships.
Traditional training courses aimed at network and partnership members concentrate upon the overall effectiveness of the networks/partnerships, covering general skills and information issues and aim at improving dynamics within the network/partnership as a whole. However they do not focus upon the needs of the individuals within the network/partnership or aim at building their capacity or improving their contributions. Coaching provides a unique way of enhancing individuals’ contribution to networks and partnerships which helps build the overall capacity of community contribution into neighbourhood renewal.
The individuals I work with in a coaching setting are empowered to make positive, proactive changes to the way they undertake their network and partnership activities. They are freed from limiting beliefs and negative reactions and are able to choose the most positive way to make an impact on the networks and partnerships they participate in. The changes made and the tools and strategies learnt by the client are unique to that client and therefore stay with them for ever – coaching provides truly sustainable support and learning.
By concentrating on the specific needs of the individual being coached, the dynamics of the wider partnership or network are improved as confidence and capacity of the individuals within the partnership changes and increases.
The provision of individual coaching will build the individual capacity of people to take part in networks and partnerships, will improve their contribution and impact upon the effectiveness of networks and partnerships themselves.
As a coach I combine unique experience within the public and voluntary sector, an understanding of partnership and network dynamics within these sectors and excellent coaching skills. I work with individuals alongside existing training programmes, which are enhanced by the coaching, and over a length of time that allows real and permanent improvement and change to be made.
My Individual Coaching programmes build capacity by
• Tapping into the client’s unique potential, recognising it and using it
• Allowing the client to ‘own’ and take responsibility for their solutions, strategies and outcomes rather than being ‘trained’
• Enabling the client to use existing skills and knowledge with more confidence and impact
• Empowering the client to identify areas where additional knowledge or skills would be useful to them personally, to access appropriate local training resources and to plan how and when they will use new skills and knowledge in practice
• Enabling the client to decide how they will change negative situations in their partnership working and then providing support to implement goals to ensure change and progress
• Developing influencing skills, group working skills and confidence
• Ensuring positive changes are made and that they are sustained
• Providing a ‘safe’ environment between coach and client in which the client can explore and test new, more effective behaviours and strategies that can lead to positive outcomes
• Developing tools and strategies for handling challenges that are sustainable and unique to the individual
• Measuring ongoing success to ensure the increased capacity of the client
